I am rebuilding my C4, and am wondering is there supposed to be play when you move the output shaft up/down or side to side while it is installed, or does this mean my transmission case bushing is worn out? I am imagining yes but then I was thinking maybe the driveshaft keeps it from having play. Thanks for all the help

You are right. The driveshaft yoke runs on the bushing. So if the driveshaft moves up and down, side to side, the bushing is bad.

But, heck if you have the trans out and are rebuilding it.....just replace it and the seal. Too much work to do it later.
