hey everyone,

FINALLY got myself an LSD into the fairmont today with 3.73 gears and yes it's very lovely indeed :D

NOW. Who can tell me what i need to buy to correct the speedo for the new gears and where it's located on the car too

. Having a fast speedo doesn't particularly worry me except it's moved that darn speed limiter down from 180kph to ~155kph, which is not allowing me to reach desired speeds thru school zones (yes i'm joking)

There's a chart on there (somewhere!) about which speedo gear you need etc. Don't know where you would get one from though =\. One question - where did you get your 3.73 gears (+ LSD) from and how much did you pay ? (If you don't mind me asking!)

Ok thanks that website is quite useful. altho of course there is no stock ford 3.73 speedo gear... might have to make a few phonecalls there's surely a way around it.

So are you happy with the change? Whats are revs like on the freeway, still pretty reasonable?

I am still weighing up between getting 3.45 gears or 3.73.

I was just thinking, in regards to your speedo calibration you can pretty much get it done now without waiting for the wheels.
R15/65/205 should have the same outside diameter as R16/50/225.

I've heard that Pigdog wants his 155km/h increased as he doesn't want to loose against a guy which will remain nameless with Red AUII XR6.

Your Ford dealer can get you a gear from a 3.45 (22 tooth black) which is the closest off the shelf - your speedo will still show about 6.5km high at 100kph.

A gear machine shop can turn you a gear to suit out of brass - I think a 23 tooth gear should be about right.

OK!

Went to a local place and they changed the gear and got it spot on. Great :)

Now the bad news - the stupid automatic still thinks it can goto 90kph in 1st gear like it could with the 3.23 diff and tries to rev the tits off the car. So when i'm giving it stick i have to back off the pedal when i want it to change then get back on it. Makes for some nice agressive shift patterns but it just tries to rev that little bit too far.... looks like i need an EF/EL XR8 computer which would have shift points for a 3.45 and should be close enough...

Solve one problem and create another always the way :)

Interesting problem there Pigdog, i didn't think you'd need to muck around with the auto processor settings from a gear change.

If i'm not wrong i thought these auto box's had abit of adjustment in the WOT gear changes. Perhaps an adjustment is all thats needed as opposed to a new computer.

Well the ECU is what controls the shift points... so i'm thinking it either needs a new computer or have someone like 'chiptorque' change the values.

Had the same problem when I changed to the 3.73 gears. But didn't change speedo gear though. Got an electronic box mounted behind the dash to convert the signal but was wire wrong initially.
