Hi guys,
I just wrote this quick Java App for a friend, to help calculate Speedo percentage errors, when changing Diff Ratios, and tyre profiles, etc etc.
I have also included calculations for the Speedo sender Gears, with the idea that people could play around with Different Wheel/Tyre/Diff Combinations, and try and work out what the speedo error is, and what Speed Sender Gear would be required to correct this error.
Anyway, the page is still being tested, but there are some things that I need help with.
1) Tyre profiles and Diff Ratios for different model Falcons (As per shipped from the factory)
2) Anyone with AU workshop manuals, I need information about speedo sender Colours and gearing.
When I get the Java stuff running nicely, I will submit this to DK for posting on the Australian ford forums site, but until then, does anyone have any idea's or suggestions ??
hi i have an AU III and i took it in to Ford as my Speedo was out by about 8km's they said it was a brocken tooth on the speedo gear but i thought these new car's all had electronic senders and were done away with the mechanical speedo gears so what are they reffering to??? Thanks

There is still a speedo gear. What they have now is :
Speedo gear @ box connected to an electronic sender.
The sender sends an electronic signal to the dash via wires (no cable anymore, more than likely pulses? Not sure)
Speed reads speed out on dash.
You'll probably find its out by 8km/h at only one speed eg:108 @ 100 and 54 @ 50, they're normally out by a percentage. Is yours over or under?
It doesn't surprise me that its out. My last car read 105 when it was doing 100 (5% over read ie: 52.5 @ 50. Took it to the dealer to get fixed............"within factory limits" they say! I was told the limits were "over read" by 10% and "under read" by 5%.
I doubt it's a broken cog?? Most electronic speedos in the dash can be recalibrated by the turn of a built in screw.
Long term odometer results.......after only doing 70,000km my car actually showed 73,500!
yeah the ODO is a problem in that case, mine was under by about 8km's they said, at first i was told that it was a broken tooth and when i returned to have a look at the gear it was a 21 tooth and they told me a 22 tooth was needed in which case that's what they did to fix it.
