standard shifter hole?

Hi,

I have just completed changing a six for an eight in my xd sedan and now need to convert my column shift to T-Bar (C4).

I have a donor car and tonight I removed the t-bar and hump to find a "bloody big hole" almost the complete size of the hump. Say 30cmX30cm.

Is this the normal size of the hole or did the last owner go overboard with the angle grinder? I didn't take a pic and it is too dark now, but will endeavour to take one over the next day or so.

I am only asking as I thought the hole would have only needed to be as big as the linkage coming through. The last thing I want to do is cut a great big hole only to find my car will not pass a roadworthy in the future.

Thanks,
Ray

they do have a huge hole from the factory,it was fords way of having no clearance problems, your hole does not have to be the same just take your time in putting hump in right position,so you can select all gears properly and just cut a little at a time till you have enough room you will be surprized how small the hole has to really be

G'day Ray,
I've just put a B&M shifter in my 79 FC LTD (same as XD), & the hole in the hump is only about 10cm x 10cm. It has an FMX auto. Mal.

Re: standard shifter hole?

Hi,

After going to the wreckers I confirmed the big hole is factory so I pulled my carpet back to start cutting and there is an indent so show which bit to cut out. Quite large but easily hidden by the hump. I cut it out, and primed the bare metal to prevent rust, siliconed my hump and installed it. The linkage lined up perfectly.

So all in and working ok.

thanks,
Ray
