Tempo Tranny problem

My friend and I just finished some work on his tempo and now we have a tranny problem. The car drove perfectly fine before. Now the shifter is stuck in gear, it will move around some but not like normal and won't go into/out of gears. The car will still roll and it makes a clicking sound coming from the tranny. Sounds like either a gear is grinding or something is broken.

The only work we did in relation to the tranny was pull out the CV axle on the pass. side and put in a new seal. The othe work was new freeze plugs on the back of the block.

Before we started any of the work we pushed it into the garage and it was in 1st gear with the clutch pushed in and he accidentally let out the clutch while the car was still moving. Thats the only thing we can see that might have done some damage.

Its a 2.3L 5spd MTXIII

Re: Tempo Tranny problem

Do the reverse.

Put it in gear and push it backwards, then let go of the clutch.

What can it hurt at this point?

Re: Tempo Tranny problem

we fixed it... sort of.

we pulled the tranny out and took the housing off. the differential gears has come loose so we just put those back in place. And somehow the shifting rod that goes into the tranny from the linkage was slightly bent keeping it from moving freely to shift gears. we just hammered it back and forth until it started moving freely.
