G'day, I've just hit 30 and couldn't be ****ed changing gears anymore.
Most of my cars have been toploaders so I have a limited knowledge of autos.
I have had a XWGT with a FMX and was impressed with it strength, but would prefer something physically smaller, and lighter, for more extractor clearance (4 into 1's). That leaves the C model tranny's which I know very little about, so here's some questions.
1) What's stronger C4, C6, (C8), C10? Or FMX?
2) Is C8 a trans or did I just make that up?
3) What's the difference between a C6 Big Block and a normal C6 (internally)?
I know it depends on how much I spend on the trans, so I am talking in stock form, as all I plan on doing is putting a B+M shift kit and a 2500 stall in it for now, but I am after the strongest starting point. Thank's for any info
It's going behind a 4V 351 clevor in my Xb, which is a country car hence a 2500 stall limit. Should still get movin' with 3.25's
fmx is strongest , then c6 then c4 then c10

there was some1 on another thread that had 400hp through a c10 with no prob
when i went to get a c6 for the bb they asked if i had a clevo or a bb so there coulkd be diferences

ive wrecked fmx and c4s with my longeswt running yet a 250$ wrecker special , but well see how that goes with the 4000 stall after next week and at the nats
i reckon go a rebuilt (strengthend?) c4 with a good shift kit. IMO just as strong as an std
FMX if rebuilt properly with a shift kit. and yeh a shitload lighter!
be on the lookout for 6cyl C4 as they usually are a heap better condition and exactly the same thing, except of course bellhousing
FMX is heavy but it won races where the C series just blew. But it depends on how much power you want to put through it. I see people loosing rwkw by going to a 9" on E series falcons when the btr unit is plenty strong

C6 for pinkbits (don't like the $250 auto's chances at the nat's, be fun but)

C10 for laminge
FMX for zbenga
All I need is a taker for the non-existent C8

i was always led to beleive C6 was the strongest. C6 and C6BB difference would have to be in the bell housing bolt pattern, from memory they dont have a detatchable bell housing
