Towing setup for my EA

Hi,
I have an EA Fairmont Ghia, late 1990, it's a 4spd auto, factory tranny cooler etc, I would like some advice on towing, I have a boat thats just under 2 tonne with the trailer, I was wondering would I need to do anything else to my car??, I don't want to buy a F truck , or a 4x4 just to tow my boat every now and then, but I don't want to breakdown on the side of the road with a broken car cause it could to it up a hill etc etc, I very happy with my car, so advice please!! do I need a bigger tranny cooler, maybe change the diff gears some thing like that?

Regards
Dave

you should check the owners manual on the actual towing capacity of your falcon, if your not allowed to tow 1800kg with your car then there isn't much point of upgrading your transmission or drivetrain.

Re: Towing setup for my EA

Your EA is OK towing that load, you do however need the bigger Hayman Reese tow hitch and a tranny cooler.

Rick.

Check the capacity of the hitch. There are a number of types of Hayman Reese hitches with towing capacities of 1600kg up. The heavier capacity ones have a square section towbar and has reinforcing straps going under the car, while the lighter ones use the standard bolted gooseneck just bolted to the bumper mounts.

Yeah get under the car and see how its all mounted. As XW said, a Reese hitch is made from a solid square section and two reinforcing straps attached to chassis rails.

Re: Towing setup for my EA

Also to save the trans change gears manually or at least stay in power rather than economy mode.
