just a quik question about the transmission. I've got an AU Forte. when should the tranny be serviced (complete oil change)? Its done 110,000kms . what happens if i don't service it?
and how much should it cost? Fords' charging $275 :s
well dave if you dont service your transmission your transmission fluid will brakdown causing it not to lubercate you vitial parts, then your cooler lines will plug up causing stress on the torque converter.
and then one day you will be driveing and then your trann will cease .... then prepare to fork out $3,000 for a decent rebuild . you should do a tranny service as per your manual spec i dont know your car but ask Big 1 or 351w maby they know hope that helps
A trans service should be done every 25,000 or there abouts. Like taz said, if you dont do it be prepared to fork out heaps more when the things seizes up!.
$275 sounds pretty steep. You should be able to get it done for about $80 from any normal transmission specialist.
A complete fluid change is 10 litres, a service replaces only 3.8. I'd go the complete fluid change, but $275 sounds a bit steep.
Don't know about the AU, but the EF handbook says the fluid never needs changing under "normal" service, and at 100,000ks under "extreme" service. :fraz: Don't believe it.
Thanks for all the replys. Well it looks like i better get it serviced. yer, i thought $275 was to high. I'll look elseware. Does anyone recommend a good place to go to?
I spoke to a ford dealer regarding the tranmission service. They said they don't touch em unless theres something wrong with em. The guy said when they open the tranny up, they usually screw up.
My local ford dealer wants to do it, but for $275... i don't think so.
Had a chat to a independant garage, and they want $180 for a full flush.
What do you guys think about that?
That's OK, as long as they put some decent fluid in it. Check your owner's manual, I think it says Castrol TQ95, if they put that in, then that is a reasonable price.
I had my EF tranny done today. Cost $160 all up, which included
oil change and new filter, band adjustment, kickdown was adjusted, selector linkages checked and lubed, the computer was scanned for codes, none found! Was this a seperate tranny computer or the ECU?
He showed me the filter, was full of friction material ...aint lookin good...it has done 245000 and he said it is due to f$&k out sooner or later, he said the ford 4 speeds usually last around 200,000, interestingly said that commos are shithouse, last around 100,000.
Asked him price of reco'd one, around $2100 sound ok?
Tell you what though, the tranny fells 1000% better, smoother quicker changing, definately worth it!
I bet they didn't replace all the fluid though. A service changes only 3.8 litres out of the total 10. Still better than nothing. Around $2,000 seems the going price for a reco'd one.
Yea, Im not too worried about that. Its obviously made a big difference as gearchanges are now seamless, cant feel them at all.
hmm....i wonder if and when it does go, would it be cheaper to convert to manual? I doubt i could do it al myself though.
Cheers
