G'day

Can someone please tell me how I can drain the tranny (tranmission) oil and how many litres of tranny oil to fill it up. Which is the best oil to use in my 3spd auto box... I heard from someone here said that if an EA stock auto does over 180km/ph, the oil will be cooked... which oil should withstand speeds up to 200km/ph +?

Ok phil to drain the tranny fluid ya gotta slowly undo the rear end of the pan, and SLOWLY work around untill its off.Oil should SLOWLY drain out while undoing bolts. Im not shure how much oil is in your 3 spd but my 4 spd takes 5 ltr. And thats all I have to say on the situation

Total amount of fluid it holds is 8.5L, but not all of that will drain out.

The 4 speed holds 10 litres.

So if going by the above post 5L of fluid should be enough.

Hmm well i tried to drain mine... seemed like it would take hours so...

I started the car up and fluid went everywhere :/ what i did was get a tube going from the drain hole into an oil pan, or bottle, and start the engine up... wa la... 5 second job :) im sure it doesnt do the transmission any good but as long as it is in park or N im sure it wont do too bad

changing the fluid is uesless unless you change the filter
also, changing the seals is a good idea
so is tightening the bands
thats why i always pay the $100 and get it done at a tranny shop.

I agree with jas..
Take it to the tranny service man.... It costs you $100 and
you get it all done properly... they can even tell ya if someone has removed your auto TPS

I agree. You might as well get the thing serivced.
I paid $70 for a service on my 3 speed which included band tightening, new fluid, and a new pan gasket.

All sounds good, I'll get a tranny service.

How often should I get tranny service? Like every 5000km as same as compared to changing the oil in the engine every 5000km? (I know factory specs say change every 10,000km but the oils already like BLACK at 7000 km which is not good)

I never knew a tranny had it's own oil filter...

What should I expect out from a full tranmission service so that I know what to ask the tranny guy to do.

Does differentials need oil changing as well??? It hasn't been changed for 280,000km... so should that be done?! If so, what are the instructions on changing diff oil?

change the diff oil yourself. get a gregorys manual, they have instructions - basically you use a diff syringe to extract it.

as for the tranny, if you change the filter the oil will last longer. i get mine done every 50,000 or so i believe? whatever the tranny guy recommends at the time!

get a full service on it, check the bands, change fluid, gasket and filter most importantly.
