Transmission Computer?
Ok, heres what I have. Just purchased a 1995 Ford Windstar. Got a good buy on it, but of course it needs some work. 120K on the clock, runs and looks great. From what I have come to understand, I have some all too common transmission woes. I don't believe however, that it is internal. (Fully prepared to be proved wrong however).
Symptoms include sporadic loss of speedometer, no cruise control, and at the same time the speedo is inop, it likes to downshift on its own when you let off the gas. From what I was told, it has had new cat, recall head work?, and a vehicle speed sensor replaced. None of which seemingly affected it's current condition.
I have had a similar problem before in a Vw Jetta. I was able to reset the TCM basic settings, and correct the problem momentarily. Eventually, I had to replace the TCM, and all has been well since. I'm hoping for a similar remedy here.
Is this common? Am I anywhere near the ballpark? If so, is it readily available? Where is it located? Any and all input greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance,
-Walt
