Hey guys,
I know this is in the wrong section but it will get the most exposure here. I was just wondering if anyone knows some good places where they do auto to manual conversions for the 4ltr falcon in Melbourne? I can feel my auto being on its way out and the last thing i want is too spend top dollar on a new one or a rebuild, plus I've always wanted a manual. Does anyone know of any decent places?

Herrods will do it for you, but last time I checked they wanted you to supply all the parts (which can be tricky to find).

I recently had mine converted in QLD by Mal Wood - who were tops. They should be able to supply parts for you (I'm pretty sure they will be able to) - so I'd give them a call ( www.malwoodauto.com.au ).

If your feeling especially brave, wreckers will also do a conversion for you if you buy the box from them - but the box condition is a unknown (reasonable chance of being shagged).

Or, if your mechanically able and have time, you could probably do it yourself ( there is an article on doing eb/ed's in the fordtech section . . .

Thanks mate. I have an EF2 ghia with an EL xr6 engine in it. I dont know what good the article would do. Im not quite mechanially able, but always willing hehe. QLD is a bit far... whereabouts in QLD are they?

Warwick (about 2 hrs sw of brisbane - last big city on the new england before brisbane).

I'd give them a call, they will ship stuff to you . . . One thing they do which you almost certainly will want, is an arrangement that will save you having to pull the old pedal box out (very painful experience)... I think its a pedal and a few other bits...

Ok i got a qoute from the blokes in QLD... $3060 for the full conversion kit and an extra $500 for labour installing it. Gave Herrod a call... I have to supply my own kit and they'll install for $600. I asked them if i need to supply the new computer becuase mine is an I6 and they say there is no need to change it... and ive been told by many people on this forum that it is a must changing the computer. I also got a qoute from a wreckers of $1100 for the conversion kit here in Melbourne. I dont know if thats a full kit... Im going in there tomorrow to research it properly. Damn... $1100 for the kit and $600 for Herrod to install... makes it sound worthwhile. I'll keep this updated.

I had to change computers after the conversion (EL XR8). The ecu freaked and ran thermo's at max all the time. There may have been a sneaky way around it, but I had already sourced a manual ecu in case of problems, so threw it in.

Just be *very* cautious with gearboxes from wreckers, they can be in any condition, so might not last long - it might be a bit of a gamble. You can try http://www.allpanelsandparts.com.au/ as a wreckers. They are in adelaide, but ship if required (or fit). Best of all they have email, so its easy to get prices etc.

Just gotta get the cash together. Yeah, its bad that theres no garuntee for the condition of the gear from a wrecker... but its better paying almost tripple for all reco'd bits... Might aswell take the chance. I know people that will do it cheaply anyway :D
