Transmission Oil Cooler, anyone fitted one to a BA?
I am contemplating fitting an external trans oil cooler to my XR8 ute:
- Is this recommended?
- Has anyone done it, if so please recommend a brand etc?
- Should the radiator be bypassed totally?
- If not, should the cooler go before or after the radiator?
I see the Territory has a factory cooler fitted to all AWD Territorys and any Territory fitted with a 2300kg towpack. Has anyone seen this unit? The Ford part number is SX7A095AA, could the Ford parts guys maybe provide a price/info for this unit?
Re: Transmission Oil Cooler, anyone fitted one to a BA?
i would get as large cooler as u can make sure it has 3/8 fittings & not 5/16 and bypass radiator as we have seen a lot of late falcons blocking the tube in radiator up, and restricting flow i have fitted a aftermarket cooler to ute i made my own brakets up its a piece of piss!

SX7A095AA is listed as a kit, but does not specify what it includes with the cooler.
The price is very reasonable - $160.65
I have fitted a cooler to a BA XR6, it was supplied by Motospecs (who have taken over ATP Australian Transmission Parts), the cooler looks identical to the Territory cooler, it wa manufactured by the same Canadian company (Motospecs was an off shoot of BTR, now ION).
I used a universal cooler bracket kit & some high temp trans hose, it fitted nicely in the bottom air dam & looks like an intercooler.
Quite easy to fit with an angle drill & some cloth to cover the paint work, don't forget to check the oil level after fitting.
