Here is the problem I am having with my automatic transmission.
I bought the car with 99K miles and I was told by the previous owner that the transmission was rebuilt.
Now it has 105K miles and I am having problem.
Sometimes, all of the sudden, when I am driving on a highway, it down-shifts to 3rd and sometimes oven to 2nd gear (the RPMs obviously jump up). It even does that when the cruise control is on.
At about 104K I started to experience a vibration (as if driving on a washing board). I decided to change the tranny fluid and the filter (even though the fluid color was only slightly darker than the brand new red fluid). The oil pan magnet had metal residue, so I cleaned it (I suspect that during the tranny rebuilt the magnet was not cleaned). After the fluid change, the vibration is gone, but the sudden down-shifting stayed.
I've read at Consumer Guide that this unwanted down-shifting could be caused by a faulty Transmission Range sensor.
Does anyone experienced the same thing or know for sure what's causing this problem?
