Hey i think there is a problem with my auto transmission (97 EL six)! Yesterday while driving it around, first off i dunno if it was the trans or not it was making like a high pitch sqeel! It kind of sounded like electrical interferance you get when you have amp and a fully decked out stereo! After driving my misus home, then first gear slipped twice (like putting the car in nutral) then the third time it made a grindish type noise! After that the i drove the car home while reving it much, and i didnt want to push it! I got it home without much trouble. Can it just be it needs a service or something or do you guys believe its much worse? Is so how much would it be to fix?

From what I know of autos (read 'not much'), I guess it would need a band adjustment. they are normally pretty cheap, or easy to do yourself, I think.

out of curiosity is your car dual fuel?

i went to a few tranmission places today and the first guy, just said i would need a reco, but he didnt test drive cause he had no time. I went to a second place they go i need a service cause the cars making a high pitch whine which means that oil is getting blocked at the filter and theres no oil pressure. Went to a third place they took the car for a drive, saying that a serivce wont fix the problem cause the its a torque convertor fault or it could be the tranmission and were not sure of it cause they would have to take the sump off check the transmission and send the torque convertor away to get tested! The last guys i went to seem they knew what they were talking about, were very profesional, and very helpful , they were also an authorised etc repairer which makes it better. How much should a reco box and labour in melbourne cost in an EL 6 futura? Nope my cars not dual fuel.

I'd say it would be about $700 or so. But that is an uneducated guess.

I remember now, a friend needed a auto replaced in their VR/S, and it was going to be about 2500.

my dads xf falcon did the same thing $500 later full service new filter and a full flush like new. But that was 8 years ago with inflation and g.s.t you could be looking into over $900.
