Hey all, i think theres something wronge with my transmission in my EL! gear changes seem to be rough and sometimes when accelerating eg. 3rd to 2nd gear there seems to be a slight vibration! Would a routine service correct this problem or do you guys believe the transmission is nackard and requires an overhaul? It's a four speed auto.

Get a service ASAP!

I thought the 4spd auto in my ED had died. My wife drives it mostly and had described similar symptoms to yours, before I had arranged anything reverse gear totally dissappeared and it was spraying auto transmission fluid onto the road whenever reverese was selected.:oo1:

:crazy1: Fearing the worst I managed to get it to an auto trans specialist (an interesting drive in itself as much trans fluid had been lost but that's another story) who diagnosed a blown gasket in the rear thingymagig. That was replaced, a full service performed and I picked it up on the same day, charged only around $250 and the car has never gone better:s5

yeah the cars not mine its my parents, but i heard them talk about the tranmission having a broken gastget as well and oil was spraying everywhere, but the weird thing is i looked everywhere around the transmission, egine bay etc, but i cant find a drop of oil anywhere, our driveway is totally clean no oil drops anywhere! Hopefully it only cost my parents 250 bucks cause the transmission on my car went not long ago cost me 2.5k!

I see you are in Melbourne!, there is a place in City Road, South Melbourne that I recommend everyone to goto, I have used them for years and they have saved me thousands in repair costs as they quote and repair fair...

Ie if its something simple, they will fix it without pulling the wool over your eyes!

Cannot remember the name at the moment but you should find them in the yellow pages!

thanks mate, i've been a ford fan for ages, but for some reason decided to see if their are any ford forums around as im on other forums, for different cars! This forum kicks arse, seems to be a lot of people on this site. Sorry im in north melbourne and the place you recommended is in south melbourne. Hows the oil level in the transmission, is fluid discolored, if you let it drip onto some white paper is their anything in it?

i dunno what the oil level is in the trasmission, i cant seem to find the dip stick, their isnt one i heard for the EL. Also there are no leaks, i mentioned the gastget was stuffed but i can find any leaks around the transmission.

yeah i know their only 2 mintues apart, but if you go from my suburb, mill park, its very far away considering mill park is one of the most nothern suburbs in melbourne, if ya know what i mean!:) Ill fid a place to go to considering i go past heaps of transmission places while driving around, i'l try to pick up the best quote i can then discuss it with you guys!:)
