Econoline Transmissions

Hi all,

In my first post to what appears a very cool forum, I'm hoping someone could shed some light on this.

Does a 91 E150 1/2 Ton 5.0L Van, carry the same Trans as the same model of he earlier 86?
I've only seen them listed as AOD.

Thanks for any help wth this.

Re: Transmission Types

I'm almost positive they were the same transmissions- AODs are AODs, but they also have AODEs and E4ODs, which were both electronically controlled, but they didn't issue them back in 1991, I don't believe. The AODs did have SLIGHT gearing differences, depending on the exact model, but I wouldn't know much about the vans off the top of my head.

I'm on my way out of the office, but I'll find a link for you later where you can look up the gear ratios according to the transmission code.

Thanks Freshmeat, I'd certainly appreciate it.

My uncle has the 91 that he was told, had previously been a Highway Patrol vehicle. The difference in ratios, however, when compared to my 86, does appear to be rather significant.
