V8 5spd in an I6

hi kids

hope i haven't missed a previous thread but i was thinking of putting a V8 5spd from an e series into an I6. The current 5spd in my ED futura has a worn synchro in 4th and my diff (LSD 3.45) is starting to buzz so i thought an option would be to take the diff and box out of a V8 as they have a stronger diff and closer ratios on the 5spd (autos are identical for both).

I realise the bell housing will probably need to be changed on the box but im not really happy with the current ratios, 1st is too short 2nd is fine but shifting from 2nd to 3rd is like shifting into overdrive. I know other people have raised this issue but a common response is to change the characteristics of the engine ie. improve mid range torque. I'm happy with my engines performance approx 220fwkW (CSA saloon race car specs) its definitely more top end responsive than low but that trait is suited to manual. It's quite nausiating the way a manual falcon jerks around with all that torque when driving around town (no matter how good a driver you are).

Diffs are the same. V8 box will not fit, as it will be too long.(Input shaft). The box can be modified to make it fit.

Re: V8 5spd in an I6

the SS shaft of which i talk is from the rather rare EB/D Ford SS. Afaik 11 were made for GTP championship racing, this included XR6 running gear but with the XR8 T5 gear box for its better ratios and hence its nead for a special input shaft. There are a few of these shafts floating arround (i dont know where though).
