im looking at buying a EB fairmont ghia v8. only thing that is putting me off is that its an auto.
how expensive is a manual conversion and how hard is it?
do any of you guys know a place in canberra that can do the conversion?
Know the right people it can be ont relativly cheap.
Mine cost $1800 by the time it finished. It was going to be $1400 but little things we couldnt find at wreckers pushed it higher. Had to buy new at ford.
Gearbox
Bellhousing
Throwout lever
Metal case that covers the throwout lever and cable on the side of the bell housing. (6 cyl ones arent compatable)
Flywheel from EB - AU 5.0 (be careful they dont give you the wrong one. count the teeth should be 157)
Spigot bearing
Clutch cable
Manual pedel box Try to get one from an EA as it'll already have the clutch switch bracket
Clutch pedel
Shift lever + the rubber boot and surround.
A few other bits you'd need are the clutch switch for the cruise system.
Your standard computer will be fine as the auto trans is a seperate unit mounted to the side of the pedel box.
I strongly recommend beefing up the firewall at least while you have the dash out to get the pedel box out/in. Cars with less than 10,000km have torn the firewalls where the clutch cable works on.
Just out of interest NZ, does your Ghia have a digital dash? If so what did you do about recalibrating it to work with the 5 speed? Or, in the case of changing the diff as well as having a 5 speed?
It's something that's always been at the back of my mind...
Nup didnt do a thing. Used the original speedo sender from the auto as they work off the output shaft. Only need to change the sender when you change the ratio. Oh and the poxy digital dash was an eb1 thing. Mines EB2 with the sports dash
