Question What is a T-38 Gearbox?

Found out today that I'm not getting a T-5 in my ute it is actually a T-38.

So can anyone tell me where it is from (what car), how strong, prices, etc etc. Just some info on them so I know what I have got.

Cheers, Simon

Are you sure Pete? Is there anything I could have got confused with? He said it was beefyer (stronger) than a T-5 and can handle more power.
I am starting to get a little crapped off!

Yes I'm sure. Ask if you can have a part number from this so called t-38? Also ask if it is still a top loading gearbox. If not they maybe giving you a T-45 which is used in current mustangs. This is an end loader design(like a T-56 6spd) but is actually only similar in torque capacity to a T-5.

As far as I know Borg warner has sold it's manual gearbox side off to Tremec. Hence, you get all these guys carrying on about getting a "Tremec T-5" as if it's some super tough gearbox...it's not!

So my advice is ask these questions and get an actual part number that you can cross reference. If they are dodgy you may get you car back and find they stuck a poxy supra 5 spd in it!?

Did a search on the Web for a T-38 gearbox, found nothing related to cars, but plenty on a Russian Tank :oo1: :oo1:

Sounds like someones trying to pull a shifty, when you add this to the "rocker cover height" problem......

Run Forrest , Run.......

If your new ute is a pursuit, chances are it will be fitted with the "new" 5 speed Tremec TR3650, which is necessary to handle the extra torque.
You will also be able to boast that the rear end has been tubbed to accomodate the wider rubber.
