My cars at the panel hop being straighteded out and Ive got an XD or XE loaner car. Its a 3.3 4 speed. I cant find the reverse gear! Moving the shifter around 3-4 ans 1-2 doesnt find any sort of gate for reverse, I tried pulling up and pushing down on the gear knob but it seems solid (some cars have some sort of system for reverse like that). Its pissng me off I have to roll it 200m down my drive because i cant get the heavy old pig rolling fast enough to swing it around in the one peice I could do that. Surely they came out with reverse...
Jeeze you've actually found a Single Rail with a working reverse lock out - most of them never even lasted for the life of the model they were fitted to.
Has the gear lever come out in your hand yet?? You're not driving an XD/XE until these happen

My corty is like that, if your really in a hurry to get 1st, chances are your in reverse.
It's ok once you get used to it, but when other people drive it, its funny watching them about to take off, and they realise they are going backwards.
Having cut the shifter down, so its only around 100mm out of the tunnel doent help matters either.
ooh ive had the lever come out in my hand once in neutral. That was bad. It was peak hour traffic and i changed to first in the first position at the red light Had to nearly ran over a kid on a bike trying to roll out of the way of traffic.
Just falcons sell an aluminum product which is a permanent fix which they developed for the lever falling out for $40 if anyone still have troubles.

Yeah, the single rails have that dodgey plastic threaded retainer on the shifter.
Funny thing is to get that part of the shifter, costs more than the whole box.
If I remember correctly, a hose clamp and some strips of tin can be used to hold the shifter in, dunno, it was years ago when i saw how it was done.
I replaced that thing for $45. You cut the nylon ball on a 45 degree angle and take off the ball and the plastic retainer then slide on the new aluminum retainer and replace the ball.
The aluminum replacement is like a self tapping screw. You just screw it into the box until it is nice and tight and the problem is solved.
Just falcons told me that they invented the new aluminum piece cos so many people were having problems with the 4 spd lever falling out.
Cheers
Dan
