Ive got an EAII with the BTR85LE(4speed) trans.

Upon startup there is a knocking sound from under the trans hump that sounds like something is loose and banging with the shaking during startup. Uppon idle the noise goes away.

If the shifter is moved into reverse, a slight shuddering is felt, but then once power is applied a grinding/vibrating sound is extreemly apparent. As soon as the car is shifted back into neutral the sound goes away. Drive is fine, unless i take a right turn above 40kmh in which case the grinding noise is apparent again.

Also over bumps it sounds as if something is loose and banging (same sound uppon startup). This banging is also heard a split second after turning the car off (sounds like something slowing down and knocking)

Chances are that something is rubbing on the body of the car. When my SLS was stuffed, the tailshaft used to rub against the tunnel when in reverse. It could be you exhaust or something.

not sure on what the layout of a ford is like underneath but from seeing the cars iv'e worked on it is possibly a loose or broken trans mount, or center bearing in the tailshaf (that is if fords have two piece!)
