How much power are you planning to put through the gearbox, just stock 5.0L or modified, do you inted to give it stick ALL the time, or drive nice with the ocasional trip on the wild side.
Wwwwwelllllllll.........I am going to be putting on a supercharger next year so it will need to handle 250-300kw's at the flywheel.
I dont do burnouts (often) but I do like to give it a bit off the lights when needed, so I can say that I do drive sedately most days but it will need to handle an occasional flog every now and then!
I think you will have to wait for an XR8 box to pop up, I have done a quick look around, and from what I see, the 6 box wether it will fit or not fit, will probably not handle the output you propose.
Will a supra 5 speed with the right bell housing be a straight conversion or is that going to be to much mucking around?
Reason why I'm asking is that I reckon I could release another 20rwkw or so by the manual conversion and if that is done with minimal fuss, it may be worth the investment. My auto 4 speed sucks a heap of power to the wheels its almost embarrasing!:nonono:
I am currently getting 115rwkw atm and feel that a manual conversion will get me closer to 130rwkw before the supercharger goes on. It will just depend on if it will be worth the root around and the cash in the end! hman:
Supra 5 speed will fit wit minimal fuss, but becarefull about which box it is...From memory I think there is a N/A version and turbo version. turbo version was much stonger internally than the NA. (correct me if I'm wrong anyone) As for telling the difference, good luck, they look the same! Talk to Dellow conversions they should be helpful.
EA box will NOT fit and WILL NOT be strong enough anyway. You would be better off getting a V8 T5. You will have to change heaps of stuff to go to a supra, and a turbo supra will cost more than a V8 T5. If you get it in Sydney, it will probably be a turbo hilux box anyway.
EA box is basically the same, I am assured it is strong enough.
However, the input shaft on the 6 box is a lot shorter, you would have to change that. My 2 cents: If ya going to boost it, play it safe and get the v8 box
Yes, the only differences are the input, the cluster, first, second, third, fifth driver and fifth driven gears. As you intend to supercharge it, for long term reliability you will need to run T5Z internals, at which point the mainshaft will also be different. The EA box runs a 22tooth input shaft, a longer version of this is not available. V8 boxes run a 24tooth input. If you get a shorter bellhousing, then the shifter position, crossmember and tailshaft will all be wrong.
115 rwk is pretty bad 4 a v8 130 still pretty bad auto or manual ive got 140 rwk
(190 horsepower) out of a i6 xf with a manual and a zorst ive still got to muck around with intake yet

140rwkw out of an XF 4.1L with only and exhaust, well you have got the most powerful stock XF engine I have ever seen, generally manual XF's put out around 70-80rwkw. AU3 220kw XR8's only put out around 140rwkw.
As for using a XF 5 speed on a 5.0L, it won't really last that long. The V8 T5 is easy enough to damage if not treated well. A V8 manual conversion is really going to cost you quite a bit. If you stick with the auto, you should really look at getting the adjustable solenoid (shift kit of sorts), it makes a huge difference and although the auto still sucks more power, it can be just as quick, especially as you get more horsepower.

Considering my ports on my heads are half the size as yours, stock cam, stock intake and 167,000k's on the clock, I think I could be excused of the dismal 115rwkw figure!
But for a V8 the torque figure is what gets the ol beast moving!
I might as well give up on the idea of a conversion, its just too much hassle by the sounds of it!
I'll try and make up for it in the engine department, get the shift solenoid fitted and see what happens.
I might have to beef up the auto box when the time comes for a S/C and hopefully it wont be as sluggish.
Thanks fellas for ya input. Feel free to make additional comments.
