XF 5 speed into NA

Ive just got my hands on a good condition T5 from an XF, and was wondering if it would fit into an NA Fairlane? Obviously, Ill need a different bell housing, but apart from that, will it bolt up? What about tailshaft length? At the moment, the car is a 3 speed, do I need anything else apart from pedal box (inc brake/clutch) clutch cable, flywheel?

it'll probably cost u a lot more than u expect. u'll need to lenghtn u'r tailshaft (manual gboxes being shorter), and a housing bell conversion kit. Then u'll need 2 get a clutch kit (couple of hundred $), clutch cable (about $80-$100), clutch paddle and a clutch cradle which will set u back about $500-$550 fitted.

Better measure the box, dunno about the X-series but there is absolutely no difference in box lengths between the E-series boxes.
If you're lucky you may find a wrecker or home wrecker willing to separate a manual conversion - maybe he's got one with a blown box or something. That should save you a few dollars :)


Oh yeah you'll also want to get the gearstick/surround/boot for inside the car, the actual tranny tunnel cover is the same between auto and manual, so that's OK.

Well ive been quoted $250 for bell housing,, pedal box (inc pedals) and manual flywheel. Clutch cable Ill get new through my contact at Ford, and the clutch I can get at trade price. From making a couple of phone calls, the box will fit. THe only thing that im not sure of, is if I need to get a 4 speed tailshaft......

Measure the box and new bellhousing.
Measure the old auto box and bellhousing.
If they are the same, the old tailshaft will fit.

:) Having said that, some of the EAs seem to have different yoke spline patterns between auto and manual, so you better make sure the auto yoke will fit before you take the car off the road
