Hi Folks,
I have a '88 XF ute (3-in-the-tree) and am experiencing difficulting selecting gears via the column shift. The transmission is ok, but there is a problem in the column. There appears to be a perished bush at the base of the column, between the 1-R and 2-3 selector.

....So can anyone tell me where I can:
A. Find a replacement steering column assembly?
B. Find a bush kit to repair my column?
C. Recommend a local repairer?

I'm in Melbourne, and unfortunately Ford have deleted the column assembly and the bush kit from their spare parts list.

Any help would be great, thanks.

Pretty sure no-one makes a whole column assembly, but try Bursons for the bushes - you may be lucky. Also check the other nylon bushes in the linkage (I'm assuming it is the same as the earlier Fords).

.....or.....good opportunity to convert to a 5-speed! ;-)

maybe look around the wreckers for a good one that hasnt done a heap of Kms.

Trouble getting a gear can just mean its out of adjustment. That's what I have found with my XF Pvan. Having said that, adjusting the thing takes time.

If you think the thing really is worn out/broken, then you have no choice than to hunt around all the wreckers. Last time I broke mine I got another one from Apex Ford Wreckers in Thomastown, was about $100.

I reckon you should try adjusting it before you replace it, as they are getting hard to come by.
