XH XR6 engine into a 3spd auto EA - whats involved?

Hey guys...

Just wondering what would be involved in swapping a CFI 3spd auto 3.9L motor for a '96 4.0L XH XR6 motor retaining the current auto?

I know it would be a complete tear out and put in conversion including ECU and all but it can't be that straightforward can it?

Do engine mounts line up?

What E-series engine coincided with the XH?

How hard is it to swap the ECU and loom?

I'd need an XR6 manual ECU for the 3spd auto right?

Does the auto even go onto the engine?

How about the dash inputs? Does all that just plug in?

What else is there??

Thanks for any advice...

Yep found that out - XH had the EF motor but without the coil pack...

I've been told this would be a major headache and not a weekend job like I was hoping due to the wiring issues..

Most XHs didnt have the variable intake manifold the XR6 did though. Id expect the engine mounts should be ok since the front end of the XG & XH was rejigged to take the 4.0 motor, not sure if the bolt pattern on the tranny changed but hopefully not. Have a look for other threads where people have converted from 4sp autos to manual as they have the same issue as you with the 3sp having no computer. Try & get hold of wiring diagrams to compare to see how you will go hooking it up. Good luck!

you'll probably have some wiring issues with the pcm as you changing from the eec4 to an eec5 system and they also run different body modules.
