I was having a chat to a mate at work today who just recently upped his boost to 11psi on his XR6t . Reckons he is getting 310 kw and 550 Nm . Shite !!!!
Now I know my XR8 ute runs a tremec tr3650 and his XR6t runs a local BTR T5 , but how long can the turbo T5 box last with this type of torque , and what are they rated at ?
Interested to find out the low down on the T5.
Cheers
p.s Happy Easter to all .

550 Nm is well past the rated capacity for the Turbo T5 however the rating is not necessarily the issue here. I've been happily running 540 Nm into a BTR 99LE auto which is rated at 480 Nm for the last 30,000 km.
The issue, especially with a manual box, is how you use it.
High RPM launches and high RPM down changes where the torque load is placed on the box in a big hurry are the two things that will kill it. The rating provided is based on this sort of bad treatment.
Poor guy, Street Tuna is agetting 340kw out of his 11 ps1 turbo, sounds a little fishy to me as the only boost upgrade kit that i am aware of has just been released by cappa this past monday.
VXLS..
Powerchip have also released a chip mod and turbo boost a few weeks back .
Their site says 320kw and 562Nm with 11psi .
My buddy has the capability of upping to 18psi , but he thinks the drivetrain won't like it for too long .
The turbo has been around almost 6 months now.
There are a fair few mobs out there modifying them ,now.

Someone on xr6 forums put some sort of adjustable boost control on his car and found it went worse at high boost because of the ECU needing tweaking. He wound it back down to about 8psi and it was OK.

I Stand corrected, but i beleive what ST says and he said that all the other kits on offer dont offer as much as the cappa kit, basically if anyone was going to get a bost upgrade on here thats the kit i would recomend.
Dunno wat the differance between a old holden t5 box an a ford one but Eddy Tassone had one in his summernats horsepower heroes winning commodore with 1300 horsepower at the wheels an it didn't blow! He reckons it was a bit twisted after but! (Street Machine May 2003)

ED XR6 sedan for sale, manual, 145,000kays, green, stock standard. Good condition.
Any offer considered.
Now driving a 04 BA XR8 Manual Envi ute. Mods to come...
I would say on a dyno, your not stressing the drivetrain that much so a stock tran would more than likely do the job.
Take it out on the track for some line painting and its going to break something quick though.
