Seems like there are a few XR's with transmission problems.
I have a problem with the 2nd to 3rd gear change. From about 50% throttle and higher I get a "flare" when it changes gears. I.E. it momentarilly revs up by about 250rpm between gear changes. Most annoying on the track! And the problem it you have to be towing something or be going up a hill at nearly full throttle to to get this to happen so when I take it to Ford to diagnose thery say they cannot get it to do it. I took a Ford mechanic with me on a drive and the only time I could get it to happen is when I'm doing about 120kph at which point he says "It's illegal to drive at these speeds so we don't think this is a problem"

I know this is a pretty old thread, but did this problem get sorted out??

Or does anyone know what causes this. Mine does it when shifting from 3rd to 4th, but only in econ mode, not normal. Any ideas??

I heard it might be the solenoid...
