17 x ??????

k... another quick question while im browsing the forums..

I'm geting mags in the next few weeks for my AU XR6... & im wondering what mag size i should get...

I have the standard Dunlop sports XR8 tyre which i think is a 235,45,17.

The AMG Quake (Argon) is a 17x7.5 & doesnt come in the 17x8 for some reason...

& the other is a ROH Fury (Shadow Chrome) 17x8

I prefer the AMG Quake.. but does it matter being only a '7.5' ?

Thanks Again.....! Memphis....

I've got ELXR8 mags (16X7) and I have 245/50's on the rears. I guess 7.5 means you could probably go something like 265's perhaps ?? I'm guessing you'd be paying megabux for tyres though - always a compromise mate ;-) Why not look for ELGT's - 17 X 8.5 =D

Cheers,
Steve

235 or 245 is generally the standard width tyre for an 8in rim, any more than that and the tyre can actually come away from the rim in hard cornering.....

6.5 = 205
7.0 = 215
7.5 = 225
8.0 = 235
8.5 = 245

etc etc

make sure you get wheels to suit an AU. not an EL i've been told that it will really affect the handling of your car

235's will be fine on a 7.5" rim. You might notice slightly more wear in the centre if anything. If you think about it, compared to an 8" rim, there is only 1/4" or 6.35mm each side. You will get more variation than that from one brand of tire to another even though they are all designated as 235mm.

That would have to be an understatement XR8MICK. EL wheels on an AU would probably poke outside the bodywork the offset is considerably different.

Someone like yourself? Dunno.

I reckon I could pick them on close inspection but I have a peculiar interest in such things. I don't think anyone would be able to tell as you drive by. Just make sure the wheel offset is appropriate and places the tire in a good position relative to the body, ie. arrange a trial-before-buy test fit.

Hey Memphis

Ive got 225/45/17s on my 17x7.5" rims, they look better than 235/245s as there isnt as much sidewall bulge, less sidewall flex aswell, better handilng.

But this is only my opinion, have alook for yourself.
