check engine light came on code says p1744
what does it mean and how do i fix it
i live in massachusetts and need to pass emissions

P1744 is Torque converter clutlch system performance. which basically means the converter is slipping when its supposed to be locked. You can try servicing the trans, check and see if there is a drain plug on the converter too, you want to get as much of the old fluid out as possible. a transmission or repair shop may have a flushing machine. fill it up with fresh fluid and try adding some transX, lucas or similar additive.
