I'm in a pickle, going camping this weekend and I need to replace the thermostat in the ole '00 explorer 4.0l sohc, its located on the top of the engine, the problem is I just had the radiator flushed and replaced and frankly I dont want to have to drain it. Can i open the housing with the radiator still full? The haynes manual says to drain it. I want to replace it in a flash, any suggestions? Could anyone also tell me the correct part# to ask for this perticular model explorer?

Won't be a problem to change the thermostat without draining the radiator. You'll leak a little coolant, but top it off with water and you'll be fine.

Any parts store can give you just the part number you need. If you use RTV for the gasket, be sure to put enough to seal, but not enough for it to drip inside the thermostat housing.
