2003 7.3 smoking issues - Ford Forums - Mustang Forum, Ford Trucks, Ford Focus and Ford Cars

My friend that has an 03 with a 7.3 has been having issues of smoking or should I say excessive smoking. The dealer here locally could not find the problem. He even contacted Ford themselves bypassing the dealer since they could not find the problem. He was finally told that it could be caused by double head gaskets installed.

We thought that this was hilarious. But we had to look. Low and behold you would have never guessed it, but it was true the passengers side head had a double gasket. Can we say great quality control.

This makes me wonder about for sometimes. No i am not trying to be negative here....just think it is odd that there were 2 gaskets installed and no one caught it. let alone the dealer had no idea.

well, it would not help the compression either!! I think someone in the engine dept and the QC dept should get a 'counselling'

Bad news, I wander if there was a reason or bad q/c..
Hmm before and after lunch break or between shifts ha??
Atleast it's not terminal..

Well...technically its not Ford's fault...they don't manufacture these engines.

Make me wonder how some one on the phone can pinpoint it to 2 head gaskets?
its got to have happened to a few people

i seen this thing on tv not long ago about engines on a production line all done by robots.everthing was precision and when something goes wrong the robots go out of sequence and put a extra set of valve springs on a head.and the line shut down.then the workers go into the cage and fix the prob.maybe a robot put the 2nd gasket on and no one picked it up.or it could just be a friday engine
