I have a quick question for someone that knows Mustang onboard computers.

Last week I put in a new aftermarket head unit, and I had to have my CPU reprogrammed to accept the head unit and use the climate controls properly.

My question is about the CPU if I disconnect the battery.

I purchased a new steering wheel, to go from my standard buttons, to audio buttons. The instructions for install say to disconnect the battery and allow the charge to exit the airbag before removal. Will disconnecting the battery for this install clear the programming that was just done to my mustang?

If so, can the airbag be removed safely without disconnecting the battery?

Disconnecting the battery will not change computer programming, only what is referred as KAM (keep alive memory) which is a set of running parameters like fuel trims.

So, you wont have to mess with the airbags just unplug the battery. The airbag system contains components that keep power even after all power is cut but only temporarily and thats why you need to unplug the battery for some time to disable them.
