2x12" jaycar subs - good value??

im thinkin of buying some 2x12" jaycar subs in sub box with tweeters (??? not sure about that configuration) of this guy and was wondering if $250 was a sweet price?
not sure how old the subs are or what conditon they are in?

how can i tell if they are sweet besides listening to them?
whats the deal with that tweeter setup?

In the Jaycar Car catalogue, it says somewhere that they outclass many of the major brands such as Clarion, Pioneer etc, and could even match up to some that are triple there price. But ive also heard that they are crap.. really crap.

I've actually never heard them in a car, but in the shop they sound pretty awesome. U could go the safe path and get Pioneer, i know that the normal Sony Explode's are pretty crap, but i think the subby's are good, from what ive heard (in person) anyway.

I GOT THE SUBS

DUDE I GOT THE ****ING SUBS!

2x12" subs, in huge muthafucan box with removable tweeters! talked him down to selling it for $225!

i think i will remove the tweetz and replace them with port tubes so i can get that little more PUNCH from the subs because i tend to listen to hard rock, metal and all sorts of non R&B shit!

problem is, i got no amp! DOH

Errr, correct me if I'm wrong, but don't subs punch harder in a sealed enclosure?

Re: errr

That's what I've been told aswell, sealed gives you the real nice punches and porting it makes the nice long low sounds really good, suited for that r&b rap shit.

Re: errr

I had the same problem when I bought my subs, it was so damn long before I bought an amp they just sat in a box in my room for months.

I have 2 Kicker 8" subs in a sealed box and they are good for producing tight punchy bass. I listen to just about everything when driving, so I'll probably ditch them in favour of a single 12" when the time comes to upgrade.

subs

Subs don't neccessarily punch harder with enclosed boxes, the port holes are used to get a desired sound (frequency range) Ports vary the air floe within the enclosure. See what they sound like with the ports covered and then with them uncovered. I found ( not always) that with open ports you get a better low frequency reponse.

But you have to take into account the air space around sub box, type of amp and material surrounding box.

It's a bit hard to describe.
