347 Stroker

Can I use a stock 302 block for my 347 Stroker? My plan is to use an engine I got out of a 66 ford pickup. I have the engine completely tore down and ready for machining. i plan on installing the CHP stroker kit with forged pistons and crank, roller cam, Z303 heads from Ford Racing Perforamnce Parts, single plane intake and a 700 to 750 Holley. I am looking for 400 to 450 HP and possibly more with a shot 100 to 150 shot of nitrous. What do you guys think? keep in mind I will put this into a 66 or 67 standard cab shortbed pickup.

Re: 347 Stroker

I don't know, but if you can find one of those oldtimers at the machine shop, especially if they are a Ford enthusiast, I am sure you can get some great advice. If you still need help call Bobby Watts Speed Shop in Lakeland, FL. Bobby is the owner and usually is the one that answers the phone. He is about 70 years old and has been running this shop nearly his whole life, and he knows alot of stuff, especially those older motors. He is also very helpful, and although he is in business to make money, he is willing to help people without giving them an attitude.

Re: 347 Stroker

yes you can use a standard block, however because of the new length and geometry of the connecting rods, they will actually strike the piston sleeves during their rotation. Set up the crank and one piston and you will instantly see the problem. The sleeves will have to be notched very carefully with a grinder to allow enough clearance for the rods without notching so far up the sleeve the oil rings risk being exposed. It can be a very tricky business.
