Question 4.0l HP engine in a 65 XP???

Hey all

Im very keen on the 65 XP 4 door and 2 door coupe falcons. Im thinking of buying one and doing it up... black paint job... lowered... 12 slotters... sound system etc (I dont want it to be original, even though like look beaut restored). The XP's are pretty cheap at the moment, i could probably pick up a nice one for around 4 grand. Now with the engine im stumped on what to do. I am only 18 and a reco 302 would put me over power to weight so i was hoping for a 4 litre HP EF-EL xr6 engine plus a 5 speed manual. Im not so sure if it would be a clean job and fit nicely, yet a 302 apparently slots straight in. (Note: this will be a year or so project). I was just wondering if this was a good idea and where i could buy the engine and mechanical parts to make this work. The HP engine puts out some decent power stock and the 65 falcon is pretty light for its age as it isnt very large, which would make the car run pretty well.

Any ideas people???

sounds like a good idea have you thought about the XR6T motor ??
as im not in mexico (vic) i cant tell you of where to get one but try auctions and buy a write off car tow the car home and you get the works you could even put in the dash, seats or sell them to get some money back

Sounds like an awesome project, I was considering fitting a soarer turbo straight six in my old XM at one stage!

I think you should be right engine mount wise, does anyone know if the engine mounts on the 4.0i's are in the same position as a 4.1 x-flow? because I know the x-flows fit no worries. ( there is an XM ute with a t/charged 250 X-flow making over 340rwhp )

Castlemaine rodshop will be able to help with an adaptor bellhousing plate to fit a celica 5 speed or you could just go a T5.
Any engineering place should be able to make up a transmission mount for you. The diff is the old 2 pinion design, weak as piss, a 6 cylinder chrysler centura diff bolts directly in and you have a wide choice of ratios. You will need a better radiator, again the rodshop does a kit for you to bolt a v8 radiator in place, might work for an EB V8 radiator too, which will give you plenty of effective cooling.

Obviously the wiring is going to be the hardest part, you are better off buying a wrecked EF/L because you are going to need fuel pump, ECU harnesses etc. You will have to modify the fuel tank to add a fuel return line ( EFI ). you may even get away with running an "in_line" fuel pump instead of the EF/L original.
I would get in contact with Rod Hadfield as he may be able to help out with a lot of things
