I own a 99 expedition 5.4 L engine. I just started to have some starter problems with it. When the engine is running the starter kick's in as if I was turning the ignition switch. This makes a loud noise, because the starter is trying to engage but the engine is already running.
Has anybody had the same problem I'm seeing. I would appreciate your prompt responce.

I have a similar problem; except, when i start my exp. it immediately starts whining and smokes the starter (or at least the solenoid)...

I found the answer. I wired the starter relay (located on firewall) backwards. I ended up smoking 3 starters trying to figure out this stupid misktake. hope this helps.
