Advice on 83 LTD V8

4 questions...

1) Does anyone know what the largest rims / tyres that can be put on without getting blueprinted?

2) How hard would it be to add an after market rev counter, its a factory auto?

3) Does anyone have a list of the specs and options that were sold with it??

4) Anyone know and good sites with mods and info on them??

Thanks you greatly to anyone that can help :o)

I don't know about other states, but in Qld, you are allowed one inch extra diameter (rim size) over the largest fitted wheel from the factory. The overall diameter must not change, and the total track must not be more than one inch wider of the the total width from the largest fitted factory wheel. As your LTD is an 1983 model, and if it had LTD rims on it, then you could legally fit 16 x 8 inch wheels, and a suitable tyre. I'm reasonably sure that you'd have no worries for this, but the best place to check is the main roads department.. I don't understand what you mean by getting the wheels and tyres blueprinted.

It should be relatively easy to install an aftermarket tacho, if it is an electronic one. Just look for a pink wire with a blue stripe in the harness that plugs into the instrument cluster. This is the feed wire for the standard tacho. Your power and earth wires should be self explanatory.

The FD LTD didn't come with too many options, other than the sunroof?, electric seats, and flash stereo. Although I think the Cartier version did have all these as standard.

I can't help you with any good sites on these cars sorry, though I do wish that there was one!! I reckon they are one of the best examples of the LTD made so far.. Look tough from front on!!

I'm building an XD ute that will be a virtually an LTD example when I'm finished!!!

Hope this helps, anyone else feel free to correct me or add anything I may have missed!!

Ed :)

Motor Manuals says the Moon Roof, Stereo etc were standard, Cartier got a special paint job, keyring and wallet/purse.

Thanks Guys..

Yeah It already has the moon roof, power seats, windows and mirrors, just wanted to see what other options I could add :o)...

Its seen better days, but after i figure out which of the two cars I've got now that I want to fix up, the LTD or a 78 XC 4 door i'll start spending some money on her and make her shine again... Luckily dads a spray painter by trade so that part is easy :o)

With the blue printing, I know you can do just about anything to a car in NSW if it complies with ADRs or is signed off by an engieneer... would love to be able to put tubs and 15x10s on the back without having to worry about rego.
