Guys n gals, im lookin at buyin an XD or XE V8. 302/351 im not picky. It will be driven often. I would like to know if they are reliable? My friend tells me they have cooling probs? Anything else i need to know or what to look out for?

Yep - they are reliable. AFAIK, the only cooling probs was on neglected cars, properly maintained cars are fine. Rust would be the biggest hurdle...

You can always check the radiator - look for nice clean green coolant - old muddy, sludged up ones may run hot. Mines AOK, even in thick traffic on a hot day. Take it for a test drive and let it sit and idle - see what happens.

RUST - Pour a bucket/hose over the front windscreen and make sure it goes in the front vents where the windscreen wipers are. They are prone for getting leaves and crap stuck down the channels where the water should drain out and rust bug holes under your dash! Go inside after and look for any water dripping/gushing onto the floor pans. The water should drain out via holes just infront of the front door hinges, behind the front fender panels.

They also rust out heaps under the rear window and under the rear side pillars - look in from the boot.

If you look around there ARE some in good nick. It's worth the wait to find one with a good body.

They're just as reliable as any other car - just keep it well serviced.

Go the 351 if you can find one! Heaps better.
