I am about to install a K&N filter in the air box of my EB XR8 and was wonder about making a cold air feed.
I was thinking of cuttin off the old snorkel and covering the hole with some alu. plate. Then using a 4 inch holesaw cut through the bottom of the air box into the inner guard and running a tube/pipe to the front of the car somewere to pick up air. I would totally seal the airbox to the pipe so it will only suck through it.
If any has any other ideas for this model, or what they have done on their falcoon, and anyone that has had a performance shop make up a feed for them, your help would be apprieciated.

You could simply buy an EB GT unit (or ED Sprint, too, I think) which is bigger diameter than the asthmatic stock snorkel and will feed plenty of cold air to your standard air box. The snorkel is only 30 or 40 bux, I think, and a better solution than cutting holes. I think there's an intake ram tube jobbie thingo from an EL GT or something that fits in the upper airbox (where it feeds to the inatke tube) which will help with airflow, too - someone else may know more than me. There's been discussions like this here in the past. Bueller?
And don't use silicone based sealants when you do any of these mods. There was a thread just a short while ago on all of this here on FF if I remember right.

Jase as i have an EL as well can you post a pic when yours is done and the power gain 8 - 10Kw as stated on the site sounds like alot from a snorkle change?
Those SS induction units are a complete waste of money, and 8-10kW from a snorkel change is pure ****e.
If you have an EL, best snorkel you can get is the EL GT snorkel, which at around the mid-$30 mark is 10% of the price of that S induction unit. For AU's, the T-series snorkel is the go which is only $24, both from your local Ford dealer. Anyone silly enough to shell out $350 for the SS snorkel needs a good bashing with a radiator hose.
I should go into business, bulk purchase EL GT/AU T-series snorkels and sell them with a healthy margin...

Yeap i totally agree with Venom S, the SS cold air is a rip off to the max, and to boot i don't think it fits on out of the box, theres an adaptor plate which you still have to cut the airbox to get it to fit.
I was trying to get the TSeries snorkel to fit with no luck, but as it turns out the EL GT snorkel is actually bigger than the T Series one. Must say could be in teh mind but i did feel a abit of a difference with the GT snorkel.

Thanks for that, i would have liked to seen a picture from the front of the eb intake to see whether a hole was cut or a aftermarket front bar was used though. :) I was also considering cutting the walls out of the airbox and just leaving corner posts and have mesh instead, that would certainly give it plenty to suck, do you think this would gain as much power as a cold feed/raming sort of set up shown in those pictures.
All ideas and help appreciated

On dyno day at the n.s.w tickford club we lifted top V8 aircleaner and gained some power with filter held in. Remember though you don't get the ram effect on dyno. With pre el's with 55mm maf its not going to make much difference with a bigger snorkel. The 220 kw run similar a/cleaner so mods elswere obviously works..IMO..
I.L 6 is totaly different they seem to have restricted them to keep induction noise down.Thing to remember is noise = power ?? not always..
