I was looking at some of the specs on the T-series again and noticed that the airbox has an aluminium venturi going into the mass air meter.

Can anyone tell me if this item is on the EL2 XR8s? Also stories on the EL2 XR8 mention the use of a 'cold air box as used on the EL GT. Is this referring to the venturi I just mentioned or some other design change from previous models?

Kon, I haven't seen the T-series but I do have a 98 EL. It has a cold air intake that is entirely made from black plastic. It twists up from the air filter box to an intake scoop that sits on the passenger side of the radiator support. Hope this helps. I'll get some pictures of the XR8 on my web site soon.

I'm not sure if this is what you are talking about, but from having a look at Jeffs ELXR8, it appears to have a spun metal belmouth on the exit to the air box.

Yeah, I ended up buying one. I almost choked when I heard the price - $240. I thought this had better be one super duper airbox. Turns out they sell it with the mass air meter attached. Oh well, I can always sell the meter separately.

Anyone looking for a new 70mm mass air meter?

I'm willing to sell the meter alone for $150. Bear in mind though that the EEC5 in pre series 2 EL XR8s is configured for 55mm meters. If you want to run a bigger one you either have to swap the EEC5 with one designed to run the larger meter or reprogram your EEC5 MAF transfer values.

Your EEC5 will run properly with whatever meter it was programmed for. If you currently have the smaller meter then no. I was under the impression that the meter size was increased from the EL series 2 but after speaking with someone yesterday I find that may not be the case.

I'm not sure how feasible it would be to swap an AU EEC5 into an EL or EF, particularly if it's an auto. I suggest eeking out expert advice.

So, I'm assuming from the above (and that the 6's use MAP) that the AU 6's don't have this fancy belmouth in the airbox!

Jeff, when you're finished working on the new intake - how would you like to produce a few copies of the belmouth for the airbox?
