doulsmd420 Registered User Join Date: Nov 2010 Posts: 7	alternator help ok if anyone can give me some insight it would be greatly appreciated. I have a '94 merc cougar. I took the stock 4.6 out and put in an 80's carburated 5.0L. my problem is that the charging system is not functioning. I wired it pretty much the same as the 4.6. the alternator hooks directly to the power distribution box. Green wire/red stripe from alt runs to aftermarket volt gauge. Does the 4.6 alt rely on ECU for anything? this is getting frustrating! New battery, new alt., 70.5" serpentine belt.
