I noticed something weird that happened yestererday. It was mildly warm in melb on wednesday and i noticed once on the way home last night, that the coolant light flicked on for about a sec.
topped water up and later on that night (around 9 ish) went out again, drove another 50 k's cam home at 2 am.
This morning (thursday) about 5 mins ago (8:00am) i just dropped my sister off to the train station. quick fang, about 5 kays return. I noticed the temp gauge had flicked up to the high zone for a minute and then went back down.
I'm getting worried... am i gonna blow a head gasket today? I need to use the car today as i gotta get to uni... about to leave now.
Check your hoses. If you cant see any cracks (mainly around the clamps) listen for them with the motor warm. You really need it to be quiet but you can hear a buzzing/hissing sound which can help you find the problem.
Good Luck
The same light on my car came on a couple of months ago
intermitently, now it is on full time. The water level is full in the
rad, and there are no leaks as I have not had to fill the water
level and it is still full. I believe that the sensor on the resovoir
is faulty, I have heard of this from other Ford owners as well. I'm
not saying that this is going to be the same for you but it might
be. I am getting it replaced on next service.

if the temp went up then down quickly you have a dodgy thermostat too ...
Have you found out if you are losing water internally to the motor?? ie does your oil look like a milkshake?? or maybe you have a leaky hose...
best to try and clear it up before it becomes expensive..
The level switch seems to work on a magnetic proximity switch arrangement, I took my surge tank apart the other day and noticed the magnet has bit stuck all over it, could be if it clogs up too much it doesn't work properly. Pretty easy to take out, just use two drill bits and a screwdriver to undo the white flange, and then wriggle switch out.

As jesmol said, you'll find there will be gunk all over the magnet stopping the float from going all the way up or the float itself has ruptured and is full over water making it a sinker....
Cheers to the two people that sms'ed me...
I know minge was one of em and another dude.
I only turned the cap to the first click and i stopped four times today, at servos to top the resevoir up. The temp seemed to be ok, it was between the N and the O.
One of the first things to mind was to check the oil. It looks fine, was changed 5000kms ago. Smells ok as well. The worrying thing is that the water has gone all murky brown/red... been like that for a few weeks im presuming, only just noticed though.
Ive already booked in to see my mechanic on saturday so hopefully this is resolved asap.
Hmmm,,,, Murky / Brown / Red , Yours cars not an Auto btw??, Auto trans fluid is red, and the trans cooler in the RH tank could have buggered up, if so you'd be having trans probs though.
