Can anyone tell me how often the antifreeze should be changed in a 2001 Ford Escort and what type should be used (regular or extended life). Any idea what type was originally used in the car from the manufacturer? Thanks!
Best to change it every year. If extended life, mabye 2 years, but no longer. Just use a good e. glycol coolant 50/50 with distilled water. I don't think Ford used dexcool, the orange stuff.

Well I guess I would consider myself an expert on antifreeze, living in Canada and all. temperatures right now are -24C with 20+ cm of snow on the ground.
As long as your engine and cooling system are in good shape AF will last more than a year but recommend changing at least every 3rd year. As mentioned use a 50/50 dilution of AF and water preferably distilled water. Most antifreeze is an ethylene glycol base which is the best, but make sure the brand you use is compatible with aluminum.
