anyone know tailshaft length for an XY? - Ford Forums - Mustang Forum, Ford Trucks, Ford Focus and Ford Cars

With a v8, toploader and 9 inch setup.

I just want to be sure that ive got the right length before i try to fit it in. Also where should the length be measured?

I'll measure the shaft I had in my XR it'll be the same(loader/9).
You normally measure from centre to centre of the unijoints.

i found 6 tailshafts lying around, so i hope one fits. There is 2 that have a pink and yellow stripes (i think) and they measure 54 inches .

Ok it measures 53.75" Uni-joint centre to centre.
Sounds like one of those 54 inch ones might do the trick? maybe?

i should know for sure in a few days.Thinking back the tailshaft that i have was out of a 9 inch/c10 setup, and i thinking that the gearbox is same length as a toploader:s6: :s6: well, hoping anyway!!:s3

You mean a C4. There is no such thing as a C10 or a C9.
But yes I had a 'loader and then an AOD and than a C4...used the same shaft for all.

sorry, im not much of an auto fan (obviosly). All i know is that it was auto and it started with C, and about a week after i sold it too a bloke it blew up :s3 :s3 :s3 :s3 , probably cos of his driving style:s3 :s3

No wuckers Botch,

I'm the same I don't like em much(auto's) but I'm probably going to use a C4 behind the 391 because it costs too damn much for a strong manual gearbox.
