AU II fuel gauge problem - Ford Forums - Mustang Forum, Ford Trucks, Ford Focus and Ford Cars

The fuel gauge in our AU is playing up a tad. It'll go from being full, drop right down the empty, stay empty, jump up to full again, stay there for a while, drop to empty and repeat to whole process.

Dad reckons it happens pretty much right after he fills up, and goes back to normal operation when the tank is getting empty.

Any ideas?

The problem lies in the fuel pump sender
Replace this and it will be back to normal

Sulphur in the fuel builds up on the sender increasing resistance & taking it out of range causing the guage to go to empty when the tank is full.

The sender is on the tank yes?

I might just leave this for her 45,000km service in that case.

If it's still under warranty it will be replaced by your dealer.(It's a common problem)
