I am going to replace my air filter in my AU2, but have heard mixed opinions on what to do. Some people tell me to go for a K&N 'conned' shape filter with no box, while others tell me to go for an EF box with a K&N panel filter. which is better? and how much is a ef box??
cheers guys
steve

Instead of starting another thread on this, why not do a search and look at the most recent thread on this subject. There are so many differing opinions, you will just have to read through and make up your own mind.
Having said that, a K&N panel filter is a good start. I had a pod filter, and am now running a K&N panel as it not only looks better, but it sucks cooler air through the factory box and air intake snorkel thingy.

I used my AU base and got the EF lid and Tickford snorkel from another guy.You could try wreckers for a lid.DOnt know if it made any difference but i will find out saturday when i have it dynoed with the stock AU intake then dynoed again with my intake on now.Does breath alot easier with air intake, exhaust and extractors though.
$30 from wreckers for an EF airbox LID!
worth the gamble i thought - if it did nothing i would just go back and work and extra couple of days/weeks to make the money back :s6:
I originally had a pod filter on my EL Fairmont but was not happy with it, unless you commit to istalling it properly (more $$) it isn't worth it, I mean you need to port the air intake down to the front of the vehicle for cold air, if you don't you are just sucking hot air from the engine bay , even with a heat shield it doesn't make much difference, which hinders rather than helps. I went back to the stnadard airbox setup (which looks better as well I think), dropped a FP K&N in, Tickford snorkel and it breathed a hell of alot easier, I also changed the EL air box lid to an EF (just a note the only diff between the EF-EL is the trumpet, the actual lid is exactly the same) and added the BA induction piping, these two didn't really make much difference at all at first, but I did notice better/smoother throttle response with cooler weather.
But as JCV8 said you really need to make your own mind based on other peoples experiences.
