With just on 38k out of the Dunlop Bathurst 1000's they are getting rather tired (pardon the pun). I have the standard 16" slasher rims fitted.
This is the first car I have had to buy tyres for for about 8 years (been driving company cars), so I have lost track with what is good and bad. So what would you recommend? The budget is also a bit tight so close to Christmas.
I just replaced the Dunlop SP 9000's on my XR6 Ute with Falkens, they were only 215 bucks each for the 17 inch, and i would assume that the 16 inch models would be cheaper.
Thanks XR6MAN, I know nothing of these tyres. How is the wear going, how many k's have you done? Are they directional? I found the Dunlops were great for grip wet and dry, but very noisey. What is your assessment on the Falkens in this regard.
Well ive only had them on for a few days so yeah as for teh wear and all the rest well im not sure yet. But compared to dunlops they are very quiet and this was the part that impressed me the most. They even make the car smoother and Bob Romano Performance motors here in QLD said they were the only tyres they will use on their own cars.
mine are 235/45ZR17's
got them with the rims as a package so i dunno how the tyres compare to others as i havent used any others! all i know is i have had no problem with them at all and thats the way i like it, so can only give them praise!
I just replaced my goodyears with Continental SportContacts on my EF XR6. They are 225/50 on 16s.
Cost me $210 per tyre but are so quiet and grip extremely well in both wet and dry, wouldn't buy anything else at the moment if I had to. Made the car fell completely different.

Either Kumho 712s or Hankook 104s would do nicely. They are $190 a tyre for 17's so 16's will be a little cheaper, and those models above are the top tyres for their companies.
Even though they are Malaysian *Edited(oops, they are Korean)*, they are from memory Michelin and Yokohama.
The Hanooks topped Motor Mags tyre test in 02 with excellent braking and handling in the wet.
I'm putting Kumhos on my 17s, believe me I've done a lot of research!

Thanks for the advice guys, much appreciated. I'm still doing some investigating so all this helps. I must admit at this stage I'm inclined to go with the Kuhmos.
