AU2 XR8 fuel pickup

You guys may recall my TE50 was cutting out under hard accelleration.
Got it fixed today by City Ford and there was a guy in there with a 220Kw Xr8 having the same problem rectified. Head mechanic who did my car said its not the pump but the guaze under the pickup being obstructed by crud. My car has only 3500km and it has been doing it since 2700 so I find that hard to believe. The other guy had done 17000Km. Hope I dont have to drop the tank out each 2700Km. Anyway Im changing petrol stations just in case.I suspect the petrol tank material or crud in there from MFG.
