Welcome to the boards, good to see you made it on after the initial signup problems.
For exhausts the question has been raised many a time in here for the AU Versions of the XR8 so i will do a search and see what threads i can find for you on the topic.

As for chips, in my opinion it isn't really worth doing until you have done a few different engine mods like cam, intake, exhause etc. before it will makr any real difference, but if you do do it, got for a unichip as in my opinion powerchips are a waste of time and money.

Will go and search for some threads now

Easy answers:

Exhaust
For a mildy modified car, single 2.5 inch mandrel is the go for power and torque. As you go for more mods though, a twin system will sound better. X-pipe is a good thing. Headers will make a substantial difference as well.

Chips
I can only say that a custom programmed chip is the way to go. Unichip works very well on the XR8. That's my recommendation having fitted one to mine.

Other mods
If your car is a 200, camshaft is a major issue. Send it on its way! 220 is better, however you will still find substantial gains in changing your camshaft.

So, my advice on order of priority is exhaust includinmg headers, unischip, then camshaft. Which basically follows what most tuners are offering in their packages.

Hello Pete,
Can you give any further advice on changing the cam on the 200.
What cam would you recommend ?
The std 220 XR8 cam or a after market cam.

What is your concerns about the 200 cam?
Is it a straight swap or would you need the heads to be done as well.

Thanks.
Steve.

I've had two '200kw' AUIIs (autos) and now have 220kw. The difference is astounding. I wouldn't even consider a 200kw now. Valves were done as well as cam for 220. Bigger throttle body too. Other changes? Not really much I don't think. With the Herrod headers, exhaust, GT40 upper manifold, Herrod intake tube, lowered springs and Herrod modified Konis (they revalved them) the 220 goes extremely well. I think I could even get a speeding fine as large as one could get with even a T3! (may not get there as fast, but would cost the same).

Herrods have some Crow cams which have been proven to work well. It's all a matter of matching your cam to the rest of the engine. I had a Crow cam fitted to my car and it was undriveable (manual) in traffic. Pigrooting around, bunny hopping. And it didn't go! Hence it was just a bad combo.

I now have a Trickflow (Crane) camshaft which is a good match for my engine. I say seek advice and let your engine builder spec the cam. From my experience, if you stick to a known formula, going to Herrods will not be a mistake. Buy a package deal and know you're getting what you paid for!

As for the 200 cam being bigger than the 220, from the specs I have the advertised duration is larger on 220, however maybe lift and 0.050 duration make the difference here. Rob, can you list the specs to show us what you mean?
