Well the 4sp auto in the XG ute is starting to play funny buggers, won't engage a forward gear, then does. Fluid was pretty crook and some very strange shuddering going on at times. Apparently a $2500 replacement. Looks like an AU II ute is on the cards, can't really justify spending too much dosh on a 250K travelled ute.

2500 is a bit much i reckon, had mine reconditioned 2 weeks ago, 1500 plus 300 for another oil cooler, look around you will find a better deal, and my car was an EL so you might even be able to get it for less.

I had similar probs in my XC. Didnt want to engage forward, when it did it slipped and ****ed around. Also lost reverse. Mechanic said it sounds like the bands which is not very expensive. Bought another ute anyway, XC still sits in the driveway with no reverse. Ask your local Auto Transmission specialist. My mechainc also warned me not to go hard on it because it could blow if I didnt get it fixed ASAP.

I couldn't stand the thought of it dying on me somewhere out here in the country so I got myself an AUII ute, pics to come after I get back from Melbourne.
